HOTEL LEVANTES

The District has continued to register development in various spheres of the economy.  The recent and major milestone was in the hospitality industry where the Hotel Levantes opened its doors to customers on 23rd December 2011.

The state of the art facility which is located along Bungoma-Malaba highway within the Central Business District of Teso North District was officially commissioned by the Chief Public Health Officer of Public Health headquarters.

The Hotel has invested heavily on accommodation facilities, dining equipment, conferencing facilities and laundry machines to offer leadership in the regional market. It has 30 rooms, a 40 pax capacity restaurant.

The facility, according to the management will provide hospitality services in the country side to the daily business world with a corporate touch that exhibits commitment, professionalism, integrity and courtesy. It also envisages serving both registered and non-registered guests in a quiet and friendly environment that will seal the guest meal to experience and expectations.

The conference rates vary according to the duration taken, number of days, number of participants, type of menu and other hotel facilities requested by customers such as accommodation, tea breaks, lunch, dinner, mineral water, sodas, projectors, slides, etc.

The hotel's long term plan is to expand and have a fitness centre or health club with sauna, Jacuzzi, massage parlour, aerobics and a swimming pool. This will transform it to superior standards hence a regional pride that will be called a city within the countryside

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY-PARKING YARD

Teso North District has a number of key investment opportunities that can help lift economic
standards of the district. Malaba border point lies in the District and lacks a modern parking yard
which can generate high amount of revenue and job opportunities as well.
The parking yard at the border is not enough to accommodate the trucks. In addition,
washing of trucks has risen where even children drop out of school to start earning a living.
Washing of Lorries along the road poses so many hazards to the environment and to other road users.
Truck drivers also face security challenges that range from fuel siphoning to theft of motor vehicle spares
and other personal effects. To avoid these, drivers endanger their lives by spending sleepless nights
guarding their Lorries.
Complains have been raised from road users and in the District Development Committee meetings,
about traffic congestion and the parking of trucks which often cause accidents.
A jam of trucks in Malaba Town.

Malaba Town Council and other private investors are encouraged to construct a Parking Yard near
Malaba Town.
Benefits of having a Parking Yard in Malaba
-          Reduced congestion on the road
-          Reduced accidents
-          Enhanced revenue collection
-          Creation of employment i.e. washing of trucks
-          Improved economy i.e. hotels and lodgings, butcheries, bars etc
