FISH FARMING IN TESO NORTH

                                        A fish pond in Amagoro Constituency

Fisheries department is currently implementing the Fish Farming Enterprise in the District under the Economic Stimulus Programme which was launched in Financial Year 2009/2010. The programme is being implemented in phases:
Phase I FY 2009/2011
  • A total of 100 fish ponds was constructed at a cost of Kshs 2.5M that was used to pay 1000 youths who were engaged in construction.
  • The estimated Farmers production was 18MT of Fish worth Kshs 3M
  •  Out of 100 farmers, only 3 have constructed extra fish ponds and also 5 have restocked.
Phase II 2010/2011
  • A total of 50 more farmers was recruited with 50 fish ponds being constructed at a cost of Kshs. 1,250,000
  • 48 ponds were stocked at a cost of Kshs. 336,000
  • Each of the 50 farmers was provided with 390 kg of Industrially Manufactured feeds worth Kshs 1,482,000
  • Kolanya DAM was rehabilitated at a cost of Kshs 375,000. the DAM is 95% complete 
  • 84 youths were engaged in the excavetion 
  • 150 farmers were trained during the 2010/2011 Financial Year.
